Duck Island
A Viewing Platform over a Derbyshire Stream

Our clients owned an interesting house on the island, but a stone wall deprived them of a clear view of the river which flowed along the edge of their garden. The idea was to create a ‘fish-like’ structure, which cantilevers out from the garden and over the stream.

The final platform has been constructed from a series of corten steel fins, which combine to form a seat and a walkway. Cantilevering the structure avoids the need for structural support within the river, which overcomes the Environment Agency’s concern the platform would be a hazard when the stream was in flood.

The final completed project has significantly enhanced our client’s enjoyment of their garden.
